I've always liked THE BBC 1 . And all the shows that come with The BBC , as they call it overseas . And Once I went over to England last summer , it seemed liked all I did was watch TV when I was in my hotel room . And I loved the programming and while I was there discoverd some cool shows . And it's pretty amazing how BBC is so popular now compared to say 1990 or so.
Anyway ,
Here is my Best BBC Shows Ever. In No Particular Order .
1. Coupling - BBC1 - 2000-2004 - Coupling is by far one of my favorite BBC shows ever . It's like watching Friends and Seinfeld with a British Twist . I know everyone has said that about it , but its the truth. It's just that funny . Coupling revovles around a group of Thirtysomethings in London trying to have a somewhat social , and sometimes love life . The best character on that show has to be Jeff . If their was a Male Phoebe type character on Friends that'd be Jeff . His comedic timing is great . He also has the funniest lines in the world . Coupling is known because they 've made all of these catchpharses and most of them are from Jeff . The Giggle Loop , how can you forget the Giggle Loop?!!!!??? If you're a fan you know what I'm talking about it . If not you need to see it , it's too hard to explain . I also love how they don't say ass or butt , they say Bottom . Their's one Ep. entitled , " My Best Friend's Bottom" and half the show , all they do is talk about seeing their Best Friend's Bottom by accident . It's classic . They all have such great chemistry . And they all for some reason , at least have something in common with a Friends Character . For Example , Steve ( Jack Davenport) , is alot like Ross , because he always seems to get the really hot girls , even though he's really goofy , and in this case he gets Susan ( Sarah Alexander) , She's like Rachel with a British Accent . She even says things that Rachel on Friends would say . It's Nuts!
It was only on for four Seasons , but still today , it is being planned in Reruns on BBC1 and here in the us on BBC America. If you haven't seen it catch it , it's def. worth it!
Favorite Coupling Episodes : My Dinner in Hell , My Best Friend's Bottom , The Freckle , The Key , and the Couple Who Weren't (What a title! ) and Sex , Death and Nudity .
Hotel Babylon - BBC1- 2006-Present - This show is BBC's next big hit for sure . It's got it all Sex, Great Actors ,and the camera work is great . I read that when they shot the pilot , the creators wanted the show to be like NBC's Las Vegas , because they loved the way they showed aerial shots of Vegas . They do the same thing with London and it's really cool . Hotel Babylon focuses on employees at the Hotel and what they do at work and after hours .... No Pun Intended . I also like how the main Character Charlie is the narrator of the show . It makes the story more interesting . The ads are great too . The tagline for the show is " Get A Room " and they have a couple in a bed holding a pillow with the British Flag on it . It's pretty sexy and smart marketing . Even though its been on the BBC since 2006 its still working on some kinks . It has a good following , but it'll be a true BBC sucess in a year or so. It caught on here in the US too , As soon as it aired on BBC America , TV Guide , I remember was raving about it . They still are. I think in some ways it's doing better on BBC America , than it is here . I've noticed that they need to introduce more characters , they have a small ensemble , but that'll change once the show gets popular . So far 1 season has been released on DVD in the US . Season 2 is Coming out Next Month . Def . Go check it out , You'll never want to check out of this Hotel!
Favorite Hotel Babylon: Pilot , Season 1 Ep. 3 , Season 1 Ep. 4
The Office - BBC2 - 2001-2003 - How come this show is BBC's most popular show in recent history and it was only on for two years??? It's a great show . I love it . But Doesn't make sense to keep it on longer?? Whatever , This show is great . It's offbeat really different , and funny . The show revovles around Office workers in a small town outside of London called Slough , Yes it exists , and people do live there, and the weird happenings in The Office . The company is called Wernham Hogg , what a name . And its a paper company . The main character is David Brent ( the always great Ricky Gervais ) who is the Regional Manager , the boss , and he is the meanest , yet funniest Boss in the world . He is so into himself that he has his own World's Best Boss Cup in his Office that he uses frequently . Then there's Gareeth Keenan , is that British?? .. Sounds Irish to me ! .. Anyway , he plays The Assitant ot the Reg . Manager . Basically , Another Manager but without the Manager title .
It's quite funny . He's so weird yet you feel bad for him because , everyone gives him such a hard time , even David , who's supposively has only real friend . Then there's Tim Canterbury , Love IT! .. who is the nice guy in the office , the guy who is sweet, kind , and gets the girl but fairly . What this show is known for , is Tim Canterbury's Character .
His glances at the camera are classic . Little smiles , funny faces , it's great . I love how little things like that make a show rememberable and it truly does . The Office is by far BBC's biggest hit they've ever had EVER . People in England go nuts . I even have Office Parties , watching the American Office , which is just as Awesome!! Every Thursday while I'm at school . In England , the Office has a following kinda like Seinfeld did , it was the little show that could , and people still watch it today in reruns throughout England and the World .
Favorite Office Episodes - The Quiz , New Girl ,Season 2 Episode 3
