One of American Television's biggest genres in the 90's and 00's is defnitely the teen drama . With such shows as 90210 , Doogie Howser M.D. , My So Called Life , and more every week the big networks kept teens coming back for more . So without further ado , here's my countdown of the Best Teen Dramas Ever .
1. Doogie Howser M.D. - ABC - 1989-1993 - As you all know , this show made Neil Patrick Harris' career . Before Harold and Kumar and How I met Your Mother was Doogie . This show was just an overall sweet funny drama . The show revolves around boy genius Doogie Howser who had a college degree at an earlier age , and by his teenage years , he was a liscened doctor . Only on TV folks . What made this show was the chemistry between Vinnie , played by Max Casella , and Doogie . The two of them would truly do anything to make eachother happy . Now , I was only 2 years old when this came out , but I remember watching reruns of this after it was over a few years after the last episode aired in '93 . It can sometimes be a comedy , but the show really precepts what it's like to be a teenager and juggle all the things that come with it .
Favorite Doogie Episodes: Vinnie Video Vici , Tonight's the Night , Ask Dr . Doogie , and the Summer of '91
2 . Party of Five - Fox - 1994-2000 - This great show debuted right in the middle of the whole Fox 90210 , Melrose Place craze back in the 90s , grant it , it was still a hit , yet I think If it premiered a few years earlier , it could've lasted longer . This show not only has heart , but is different from alot of Fox dramas that were on Tv at the time it was airing . Party of Five revovles around the Sallinger clan , as they cope with the death of their parents after a car accident leave them alone in San Fransisco . This show at the time launched the careers of Scott Wolf , Jennifer Love Hewitt , and Matthew Fox ( now of Lost) . It also featured a young Lacey Chabert who would move on to such movies as Mean Girls and The Wild Thornberrys to name a few. What I love most about this show is that , it doesn't have all that soapy stuff that 90210 and Melrose had at the time . It was strictly a drama. I can't imagine losing your parents and having that many kids to take care of . The best actor on this show was defnitely Scott Wolf . His Character , Bailey , had it all , Football Star , Girls , lots of friends , you name it , this kid had it . Yet , what most people didn't know , as it would reveal in seasons to come , he had a huge alchol problem , and most of the story lines revolving Bailey surrounded that issue .
He really made that character lovable , you felt bad for Bailey , yet you also said to yourself , this isn't your ordinary Teen Drama because most of the characters were under the age of 35. The show ran for six seasons on FOX , and I think the only reason it ended in 2000 , was because FOX thought it'd be easier to end it at the same time as 90210 , yet at the time , remember 90210 was hitting 10 years on the air , and Party of Five was only reaching 6 . So , in a way , it still could've gone on longer , but it didn't but it was still one of those shows that deserved more praise than it got .
Favorite Party of Five Eps: Worth Waiting For , Much Ado , The Trouble with Charlie , Best Laid Plans
3. 7th Heaven - WB/CW - 1996-2007- Yet another Aaron Spelling Production , this one was one of those shows that everybody watched at one point of time , yet it should've stopped after the 05-06 season . I'll get to that later . Anyway , 7th Heaven revolved around the Camden's who had too many kids and welcomed alot of other strangers to their house to live with them . What I like about this show , is that in the earlier years it was very beleivable . The minister , played by Stephen Collins , was the main character , and he was like the leader of the family . It was family show , and in a way, a very religious show . Yet , that's why I think this show was so well liked by the PTC( Parent's Television Council) , because of the issues that it tackled so well . Yet , as the years went on , how many times can one family always be so friggin happy after everything is said and done . By 2000 or so , I stopped watching , everyone was getting older , and by that point in the run , Jessica Biel left because of her whole scandel in taking " inappopriate" photos in a Sports Magazine . The show was better off without her . Anyway , in the 05-06 season the WB , just folded , and became what it is now , The CW . Now , this season , Season 10 , was supposed to be the LAST season of the show . They had a great Series Finale , but wait . Aaron Spelling and Crew decided lets give it one more season !!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME . 10's enough , When a show reaches 10 years on air , that's like the flag that tells you , we're done, let's pack up and go .
But , NOOO , they couldn't do that , and the 11th season , SUCKED . By making an 11th season they truly lost all their fans , ratings , and most of the respect from Critics . Yet the PTC , Those Losers , loved to have them back . Only B/C the PTC
Hates every other show on Network TV! I don't even have a favorite episode , its a great show don't get me wrong , yet it over dued its welcome on televison .
